Leadership Development Program
Im honored to have been one of the first persons chosen for BCUs Leadership Development Program. When I committed to the program in 2003, I far underestimated the value it would add to my career. I expected that upon completion, I would better understand each departments daily objectives, the impact of management decisions on both people and processes, and gain the ability to work more effectively across departments and the organization, but I didnt realize how significant it would be to, in addition, build relationships with every area in the organization prior to setting foot in a management role. The key decision-makers at BCU have a lot of wisdom to share, both personally and professionally. I attribute much of the success in my current role to the group that willingly shared their expertise. The friendships I have today with those same people throughout the organization have paid off tremendously in communication, gaining consensus and collectively making decisions that will continue driving BCU forward.
- Manager, Sales
Objective
The Leadership Development program aims to identify talented individuals and develop them to become our future business leaders. Leadership Development Associates spend a total of
1 ½ - 2 years learning about and contributing to the business by means of a series of rotational assignments of 5 - 7 weeks each in length across up to 15 different departments within BCU. Through these assignments, Associates develop skills such as leadership, project management, teamwork, communication, and supervisory skills.
Requirements
All candidates applying to the program must have successfully completed a four-year degree or must be within six months of graduation. Candidates should have a demonstrated record of academic excellence and have achieved a 3.00/4.00 GPA (B average). Candidates also may be required to travel to complete this program.
Structure
Each Associate will report to the department head during their rotation. The department head will provide guidance and coaching during the rotation and will be responsible for providing a challenging rotation. Each Associate will also be assigned a mentor on the Senior Management Team. The purpose of this relationship is to acclimate the Associate to BCU and to provide guidance on career opportunities and assignments.
