Online Bill Pay FAQs

What is Online Bill Pay?
The Online Bill Pay service lets you receive and pay non-credit union bills online. Examples might include utilities such as electric and gas companies, telephone companies, and service providers such as plumbers or gardeners.

How does Online Bill Pay work?
There are two basic steps involved in using the Online Bill Pay service:

  1. Set up your payments
  2. Schedule payments

When you first begin using the service, set up your payee list by adding the payees to whom you want to make payments. Some payees can send electronic bills (e-bills). You only need to add each payee once. All of your payees are also listed on the Make Payments — Multiple Payments page, where you can quickly schedule payments.

When you make a payment, you specify the date that you want the payee to receive the payment. The earliest available payment date is four (4) business days from today. Your credit union determines whether a payment is sent electronically or by check, based on whether the payee accepts electronic payments and other guidelines.

After a payment is scheduled, it appears as Scheduled on the Payment Activity — Online Bill Payment page. After the payment is processed, the status changes to Processed. The Payee receives your payment on the payment date you specified and credits your account. However, the payee may take a few days to apply the payment to your account.

How do I enroll in Online Bill Pay?
To enroll, log in to online banking, click on the Pay Bills tab and complete the easy enrollment process.

What type of account is required to set up Online Bill Pay?
You can use a Checking or Money Market account.

What methods are used to make payments?
Two alternative methods are used to pay a payee.

Electronic payments are sent out one day before the due date. The funds are withdrawn from your account on the payment due date.

A laser draft is written with your account number on it (basically, it’s a personal check). Funds are withdrawn directly from your account when the Laser Draft check clears. Laser Draft checks expire 30 days from the date of issue.

How secure is Online Bill Pay and my personal information?
Online Bill Pay uses several methods to ensure that your information is secure.

  • Member Number and PIN: Your online banking member number and PIN are unique identifiers that only you know. As long as you don’t share your Member Number and PIN with anyone, no one can sign in to Online Bill Pay as you.
  • SSL: Online Bill Pay uses SSL (secure sockets layer) that ensures that your connection and information are secure from outside inspection.
  • Encryption: Online Bill Pay uses special encryption to make your information unreadable as it passes over the Internet.
  • Automatic Sign Out: Online Bill Pay automatically signs you out of a session if you are inactive for a predefined number of minutes (usually 10 minutes). It's best to sign out immediately after you're finished using Online Bill Pay.

How much does Online Bill Pay cost?
Online Bill Pay is FREE to Online Bill Pay Rewards members or active users of the product. You must have a valid checking account or a money market account with check privileges in order to enroll in Online Bill Pay.

How do I cancel my Online Bill Pay service?
To un-enroll, go to Online Bill Pay/My Profile/Service Setup and follow the quick steps. Before you cancel your service, keep in mind the following:

  • Payments scheduled for the future, including repeating payments, will not be paid after you cancel.
  • Payments that are already in process will be paid.
  • You will no longer have access to your payment activity record. Therefore, you should wait until all your scheduled payments and unclaimed Email Payment invitations with money are processed before you cancel the service.
  • Your payees are notified to stop sending e-bills. However, it can take a few days for the payee to process the request.
  • Because you can’t send your payments using Online Bill Pay after you cancel your service, you should make your payments by some other means, such as a check.
  • You should print a copy of the Payment Activity — Online Bill Payments page to keep for your records before you cancel your service.
  • If you decide to use Online Bill Pay again, you will have to re-enroll and set up your payee list and nickname list again.
