What are the different checking account options offered by the Credit Union?The Credit Union offers a variety of checking account options—all with no monthly maintenance fees or minimum balance requirements:
- PowerPlus™ Checking—allows you to earn a great dividend rate on balances up to $25,0001, and provides reimbursement for up to $10 of out-of-network ATM fees each month1
- Simply Checking™—a basic account for your day-to-day transactions
Minors over the age of 16 are eligible to open a checking account if a parent or legal guardian is listed as the joint account holder on the membership.
How do I open a checking account?If you're already enrolled in Online Banking, log in to your account. In the menu, click Open An Account and then select Open a Checking Account and follow the prompts. If you're not enrolled in Online Banking, contact us.
Do Credit Union checking accounts have a minimum balance requirement or monthly maintenance fees?There is no minimum balance for opening or maintaining a checking account, nor are there any monthly maintenance fees.
What if I don't meet the qualifications for the PowerPlus Checking interest and non-BCU ATM fee reimbursement benefits?If you don't meet the qualifications, don't sweat it. You won't be penalized, and will continue to enjoy no minimum balance requirements or monthly maintenance fees as well as easy access to your account.
How many PowerPlus Checking accounts can I have?PowerPlus checking accounts are limited to one account per member.
Will I be charged for using a non-BCU ATM?The Credit Union does not charge fees for using non-BCU ATMs. Also, the Credit Union belongs to several surcharge-free ATM networks and reimburses non-BCU ATM fees for qualifying PowerPlus checking accounts.
What is the routing number for the Credit Union?The Credit Union's routing number is 271992400.
What is a MICR number and what does it mean?MICR stands for Magnetic Ink Character Recognition. This is the account number listed on the bottom of your checks. This information is used for setting up direct deposits and automatic withdrawals from your accounts.
What is my MICR number or account number?Your 14-digit Direct Deposit/MICR Number can be found on the bottom of your checks. You will see a series of numbers separated by colons (:) or other symbols. Your Direct Deposit/MICR Number is the series of numbers in the middle (see bold below).
Example: 000000000 : 00000000000000 : 0000
If you don't have checks, you can also retrieve this number by logging into Online Banking and selecting the deposit account for which you would like the information. Simply:
- Log in to Online Banking.
- Select the account you'd like to view from your account list.
- The routing number and MICR/Direct Deposit number will appear underneath the Account Details section.

How does Enhanced Direct Deposit work?Financial institutions are notified of forthcoming electronic deposits before they actually receive the money. Instead of waiting for the funds to arrive like most banks, the Credit Union gives our members their money sooner by advancing payroll and any other electronic deposits as soon as we are notified they are on their way.
How do I set up direct deposit of my payroll funds?To set up direct deposit of payroll funds to your Credit Union account and take advantage of this Enhanced Direct Deposit feature, simply provide your payroll department with Credit Union’s routing number and your 14-digit Direct Deposit/MICR Number.
Is there a fee for Enhanced Direct Deposit?No, there is no fee. Enhanced Direct Deposit is free for all members.
Do I have to opt-in to Enhanced Direct Deposit?No. Enhanced Direct Deposit is automatically applied to any Credit Union member payroll direct deposit or other electronic deposit.
Does this mean my payday changes?No, your payday doesn’t change. The Credit Union simply advances your payroll funds so you'll be able to access them up to 2 days before your scheduled payday. This is a service provided by the Credit Union for our members; this is not a service your employer provides.
Can I rely on Enhanced Direct Deposit to pay for scheduled bill or loan payments?While BCU will try wherever possible to advance payroll direct deposits by up to 2 days, availability of funds ahead of the original scheduled pay date is not guaranteed. You should not rely on Enhanced Direct Deposit to satisfy the needs of scheduled bill or loan payments, or any other date-sensitive financial obligations.
Can I access my payroll funds any sooner if I am currently being paid by check?No, Enhanced Direct Deposit advances the electronic deposit of payroll funds only and does not apply to checks. Any applicable standard check holds will still apply.
If you do not have sufficient funds in your checking account to clear a presented item, funds may automatically transfer from another share and may count towards withdrawal limitations for that other share. (Regulation D dictates that electronic transfers from Savings are limited to six per month. Overdraft transfers are automated electronic transfers, which are subject to Regulation D rules. Each transfer in excess of six per month is subject to a $3 excessive withdrawal fee).
