Baxter Credit Union Earns Environmental Award
April 14, 2010Vernon Hills, IL Baxter Credit Union (BCU) has earned an Environmental Award from Cintas® Document Management, a leader in the preservation of the environment, for its participation in the shredding and recycling of paper documents.
BCUs paper is shredded on site, sent to a recycling plant and weighed before Georgia Pacific receives it to produce recycled paper products. In 2009 alone, the environmental impact of BCUs efforts totaled the savings of 578 trees, 12,920 gallons of oil, 238,000 gallons of water, and 102 cubic yards of landfill. In addition to the endeavors of BCU and its staff, BCU also holds periodic Shred Days where members of the credit union and the community at large are invited to join BCUs efforts by bringing their old documents to BCU for onsite shredding. These efforts contribute greatly to BCUs success in attaining results and recognition towards the importance of green initiatives.
In 2008, BCU attained LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Project Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council for its Vernon Hills headquarters. Were committed to supporting green efforts and conducting business in an environmentally sustainable manner. We do so in a variety of ways that include supporting a number of programs in addition to the shredding. These inlcude Reuse-A-Shoe for athletic shoe recycling, annual programs to recycle batteries and electrical equipment and discounted auto loans for fuel-efficient vehicles, said Michael G.
