BCU Helps Fund a Bright Future

BCU, in partnership with Student Choice, has awarded a special $1,000 scholarship to local Vernon Hills high school student, Nicolas Beaumont, for his Innovation Fair entry.
The Vernon Hills High School Innovation Fair was organized to empower students to put their creative, problem-solving ideas into action. Students were challenged to develop mobile applications that helped solve common concerns surrounding productivity, safety, the environment, and the community. In total, 23 students submitted entries.
“All of the students were so excited and did an amazing job delivering their solutions and prototypes,” Laura Alvarez, BCU Vernon Hills branch manager said. “It was clear they did their research on the Credit Union and put a lot of effort into their projects. It really was a sensational event and I’m proud that BCU was a part of it.”
Innovation Fair winner and future physics major at Lawrence University, Nicolas Beaumont was recognized for his development of a unique application that helped address common scheduling issues. Beaumont’s vision for the app was to build transparency around employee schedules and coordinate time in and out of the office.
Jill Sammons, vice president of marketing and brand strategy said, “We’re so impressed with Nicolas. He did an extraordinary job building an actual working prototype to help solve scheduling conflicts. This is the type of innovation that we encourage at the Credit Union.”
In addition to this unique award, the Credit Union is committed to helping young students achieve financial freedom through its annual Scholarship Program. Since 2014, BCU has awarded over $165,000 in scholarships to college-bound high school seniors. The 2019 winners will be announced later this summer.
