Departing BCU Board Members Leave Legacy of Growth, Innovation

BCU announced three members of its board of directors will conclude their service in 2016. Stepping aside will be board members Robert Benziger, Thomas Abate and David Drohan. Their advocacy on behalf of Credit Union members spanned a combined 60 years.

Robert BenzigerA board veteran of 35 years, founding member Robert Benziger is the former associate general counsel for Baxter Healthcare Corporation. Benziger's professional background also includes positions as patent attorney at The Bendix Corporation and patent and trademark attorney at Ford Motor Company. Benziger has also served on the board of directors for Triangle Education Foundation, on the board of visitors at the University of Illinois College of Law, and as a volunteer at Highland Park Hospital.

David DrohanThomas Abate served on the BCU board since 2007. Before retiring in 2014, he was corporate vice president and chief financial officer at Edwards Lifesciences. He previously served as the company’s corporate controller and then treasurer. He played a vital role in Edwards' spin-off from Baxter International in 2000. In addition to the above roles, he also served as group controller for the cardiovascular group at Baxter and as vice president of finance for Clintec International, a joint venture Between Baxter and Nestle.

Thomas AbateA member of the BCU board since 1999, David Drohan is the former corporate vice president of Baxter International Inc. Prior to that, Drohan’s roles at Baxter included senior vice president of Baxter Healthcare Corporation, president of the medication delivery business, vice president of sales for the parenteral division, president of the pharmacy division and president of IV systems/medical products. Additionally, Drohan has served on the boards of the Lake County Economic Development Corporation, St. Louis College of Pharmacy,  Riverside Foundation and Cytomedix Inc.
